Ben and Amanda!

Ben and Amanda!

They are here for a couple weeks and today we drove to Mt. Rainier National park. We had a picnic at Sunrise, which is at 6400 feet elevation and also the highest point you can drive to at Mt. Rainier.

Hiking

Hiking

We started off for a short hike after lunch, but being the boys' usual naptime, they weren't very willing to walk very far. Good thing we had Uncle Ben along!

Sourdough Ridge

Sourdough Ridge

This was a beautiful place to sit and enjoy the amazing 360 degree view of the mountains and valleys. From here we could see Mt Baker and Mt Adams (2 other volcanic mountains). The ridge at this point was not very wide and so, yes, we made sure to hold the boys hands.

Sunrise, Mt. Rainier

Sunrise, Mt. Rainier

Below is Sunrise and the trail that we hiked up to Sourdough Ridge. The trail then follows the ridge for half a mile, then descends back down to Sunrise. There are other numerous trails in the area which will be fun to do when the boys can hike a little farther. The big snowy mountain is, of course, Mt. Rainier and the big glacier coming down the mountain is Emmon's glacier.
